Police have identified the mastermind of the deadly armed attack on the Kwabenya police station last week.

The police detectives investigating the attack say Nana Owuo, also known as Kofi Acheampong, was identified among the suspects arrested in connection with the incident.

Police sources told Joy News that Nana Owuo is notorious for the supply of arms to many armed robbers in Ghana.

His main aim for attacking the District Police Headquarters at Kwabenya in Accra last week was to free one of his gang members, a Nigerian who was among the seven who broke jail during the attack.

A police officer, Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi, was killed during Sunday's attack on the police station. Six Ghanaian suspects and the Nigerian broke jail with help from the attackers.

Dickson Ofori, Chubuzor Chubuzor, Edem Rockson, Emmanuel Kotey, Prince Osei, Kofi Darko and Atta Kwadwo were the jailbreakers, but they have all been re-arrested after a heavy police clampdown on the perpetrators of the attack.

Police also revealed that a female food vendor who operates her business close to the station facilitated the attackers by passing on her mobile phone to the remand prisoners.

Police say the communication between the inmates and the attackers greatly facilitated the hit on the security post.

The woman has also been arrested.

Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, had revealed earlier that 32-year-old Kofi Acheampong (Nana Owuo), the mastermind of the attack, is believed to be the spiritual father of the gang.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, has said the government will leave no stone unturned to ensure all those responsible for the attack are brought to book.
