The Asante Akyem North District Health Directorate in the Ashanti Region has suspended the expanded immunisation programme in the district on grounds of insecurity.
The district director of Health Services, Madam Rebecca Teni Dakurugu, announced this at the annual performance review meeting at Agogo.
She expressed serious concerns about the development, which has denied pregnant women, new-born babies and health education, particularly at the Afram Plains enclave or portions of the district, of the needed health care.
The forum brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the health concerns and threat of the people as a result of an impasse between the Fulani herdsmen and the indigenes of the area.
Madam Dakurugu mentioned ailments such as malaria, upper respiratory tract infection, acute eye infections and diarrhoea as among the first 10 out-patients morbidity.
The public health physician at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital, Dr Jojo Cobbinah, expressed similar concerns.
The district veterinary officer, Roland Attenang, cautioned the residents of the area to be wary about the consumption of cow shot and killed by the task force.
According to him, cattle diseases such as tuberculosis and anthrax could pose health threats and danger to the people when not checked.
He, therefore, urged the residents to ensure that animals are well checked and inspected before consumption.
